About Heather

Hello, I am Heather, founder of My Holistic Reflexology.

I was 22 when I conceived my first child, living in Spain, with an abusive partner. I had no family around and was completely unsupported. My pregnancy was a lonely, scary experience. I didn’t speak Spanish back then, didn’t have the internet and didn’t have anyone to lean on. I suffered with antenatal depression, long before I knew it was even a thing. I spent my pregnancy uninformed and unhappy. Just 2 years later I found myself in a similar situation with my second child. I was coerced into a birth choice I did not want. There was no choice, no support and no one to advocate for me or to empower me. It deeply affected my early years with my children and my memories of what should have been the happiest time of my life.

Shortly after my second child was born, my best friend lost her newborn baby after a traumatic birth caused by negligent care, her baby was born so poorly he never recovered. My friend almost died too and had a full hysterectomy to save her life, leaving her unable to ever have another child. This was the catalyst for me to find my calling to work with women, to become a midwife, to be ‘with woman’.

As a single mum with 2 young children, I moved back to the UK and retrained as a midwife. Working as a community midwife, fulfilling my passion and goal to support women when they were vulnerable, to advocate for them and give them the support they deserved and needed.

I loved my job but found providing continuity of care, and giving women my unlimited time, increasingly difficult working in the NHS so I trained as a holistic therapist, specialising in women’s health to support women through fertility, pregnancy, hormone related conditions and (peri) menopause. Over the last 15 years, I have been privileged to support hundreds of women and impart my knowledge and experience to support them on their individual journeys.

I provide a safe, nurturing environment, allowing you to feel genuinely heard and valued. So many times, clients have told me that their concerns have been ignored or dismissed by health care professionals and they feel let down, lost and unsure where to turn next. My mission is to empower you by providing evidence-based advice to educate and guide you, enabling you to take control of your health and wellbeing.

When we work together, you’ll receive more than just a reflexology treatment. I take a holistic approach, addressing factors such as diet, lifestyle, functional testing, mindset, and stress management. I offer a combination of tools to help you improve your health and well-being. By integrating all my knowledge and expertise, I provide a unique service that combines my experience in midwifery, holistic therapy, nutrition, and life coaching. I am currently studying Advanced Nutrition Science at Mac Nutrition Uni.

If you want my support and help, let’s start our journey together with a complementary discovery call.

Reflexology Clinic of the Year for Central England

About Becky

Hi, I’m Bec and I work alongside Heather at My Holistic. I’m a level 5 Clinical Reflexologist, qualifying in 2023 having previously been a midwife for the NHS.

I live locally (in fact only a few doors away from Heather) & have lived in Sutton Coldfield my whole life. I live at home with my husband, 4 children (3 girls and 1 boy), my 2 dogs & cat. It’s a crazy busy household but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I first discovered reflexology as a student midwife back in 2003, unfortunately I didn’t get to try it myself until January 2006. I was in my final year of my midwifery training and pregnant with my first child. At the time I was 20 years old, my partner had recently left me and I was going through an induction of labour. During the induction a colleague trained in reflexology came and did a treatment for me, and it was wonderful!! Just 4 hours later I was holding my beautiful baby girl in my arms & from that moment on I was sold, I knew I wanted to study and practice reflexology to help others, however life had other plans for me for a while.

Despite the pressures against me, I qualified as a midwife in September 2006 and at the age of 21 I began my midwifery career and began dating my now husband. In my midwifery career I worked locally in a range of different settings over the years. I worked on the antenatal and postnatal wards, labour ward, antenatal clinics and assessment units and in the community. I loved nothing more than supporting women and their families throughout one the most incredible times of their lives, as after all midwife means ‘with woman’ and there is still nothing I love more than supporting women and their health. Throughout my career as a midwife, I came across many challenges and faced many personal ones myself, particularly with my mental health, however the biggest challenge came in October 2018 when my 4th child was born. A catalyst of events took place that bought me to the decision to leave the NHS and midwifery, a career I had always known since the age of 18.

The birth of my 4th child was a traumatic event, in which my son nearly lost his life. He spent time at a hospital 30 miles away being ventilated whilst I remained where he had been born due to me being too unwell to join him. After having fairly uncomplicated pregnancies and water births with my 3 daughters, the events of my son’s birth lead to an emergency caesarean section and left me with birth trauma related PTSD, months of counselling and CBT. Whilst I was on maternity leave, I made the decision to finally train in reflexology after 15 years of dreaming and so in 2019, just before my son’s 1st birthday I began my level 5 clinical reflexology training. However, in March 2020 covid hit and during this period of time I was still off work, on long term sickness due to my PTSD. In the September of 2020 after having been off long-term sick for nearly a year ( & 12 months maternity leave), a lot of counselling and still very much struggling with the effects of my PTSD, I made the decision to leave midwifery. I just couldn’t face the thought of stepping back into the unit where I worked and my son was born, but almost died. I was worried about potential patients, their safety and the effects my PTSD could have on both them and me. But furthermore, having experienced trauma, the uncertain future (at the time) for my son made me put things into perspective and this led me to being here after finally qualifying in 2023 as a level 5 clinical reflexologist, even if it did take a bit longer than it should have thanks to the global pandemic.

My passion has always been women’s health; however, I am also hugely passionate about mental health too, having suffered from both antenatal and postnatal depression, PTSD, trauma and crippling anxiety myself. In addition, I love supporting parents with children who have additional needs, as it’s something very personal to me as 2 of my children have additional needs.

As a level 5 reflexologist, I am qualified to work reflexology on feet, hands and auricular (ears), integrating the meridian system (a form of traditional Chinese medicine) and acupressure points. Furthermore, I am qualified to work within palliative care, fertility, pregnancy, women’s health, mental health, babies and children and since qualifying have undertaken further menopause training.
